The history of Rollecate starts in '54. Today Rollecate is a leading company on the Dutch market. The name is one that has a symbolism. It's a name that comes from the own region, and is based on a true story.
It's the story from baron W.J. van Dedem. Early 19'th century the nobleman gave the assignment for digging a 40 kilometres long channel. This channel was meant for the fully loaded poat ships from the peat colonies. For this project is was necessary to move the baron's own house; The villa of Ten Cate. The baron came up with an ingenious solution for this problem: the complete construction was put on cotton reels and was moved to the new location this way. From that moment on the villa was called the Rollecate. A name with a rich history and a definition for 'rolling' but 'solid as a rock'. This appeals very much to the founders of Rollecate, Roelof Roo, Hendrik Zwerus and Hendrik Vonder, and they've just found the name for their company.
At that time, the tree pioneers were the only employees of the Rollecate, where currently there are over 350 employees. Rollecate is part of an international operating company with over 700 employees. There is still a link with the founders, the Rollecate headquarter is located at the H.G. Zwerusstraat and the managing directors are two sons of Roelof Roo. The three founders were entrepreneurs with a mission and tackled everything themselves. Stagnation was considered to be the biggest enemy. "Not moving equals dying", was their saying. Always looking for a new challenge and moving their marks. Slowly but steady Rollecate grows to be a trendsetter.
Their innovative character would be proven several times in the future. Rollecate started as a forge with a speciality for steal windows. In the sixties when this market is regressing, Rollecate is already prepared for a new challenge. Behind the scenes one had already begun with starting up an aluminium department in a small corner of the factory. In '67 the company was enlarged with an official aluminium department. Another year later Rollecate has the Dutch scoop as a producer of uPVC windows.
In the years following the growth continues and in 2004 Rollecate celebrated their 50th anniversary. Today skills and quality are the main fundaments of the company. |
